Bearded dragons are native to certain areas of Australia that provide high temperatures and suitable land formations for perching and shading. In order for a bearded dragon to live a healthy life, it is important to mimic their natural living conditions when building a vivarium.

When constructing a vivarium for a bearded dragon, it is recommended to use a commercial reptile cage or aquarium that provides enough space for the dragon to move around with ease and have areas for perching. A vivarium should be built and ready for use before placing a bearded dragon in it to prevent any problems with the dragon's adaptation to the new environment.

The size of the vivarium should depend on the age and number of bearded dragons being housed. Young dragons require a small vivarium to feel secure and catch live insects with ease, while adult dragons require more space. A recommended size for an adult bearded dragon vivarium is 42" wide, 24" tall, and around 20" in length.

The vivarium environment should produce a temperature gradient, with a basking area set up to produce temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit and a shaded area at room temperature. Heating lamps should be installed to maintain the correct temperature gradient, and the vivarium should be placed away from direct sunlight and sources of cold air.

Finally, the location of the vivarium is important, as excessive traffic and direct sunlight can cause stress and health problems for the dragons. Some traffic is required for the bearded dragons' nature to observe, but it should not be excessive.
